They are a small, dark-colored toad with two rows of light spots down its back. These spots may form a stripe if there are enough spots. Its underside is usually light in color, but can also be dark. The skin on the sides of this toad’s head and body is granular (rough). This toad breeds from late winter into early summer and tadpoles take about 2 months to metamorphose into juvenile spadefoots. Juveniles generally emerge from their underground burrows in late summer or early fall<\/p>\n\n\n\n
